Set Health & Fitness Goals for Yourself

I shared with you the importance of staying healthy and how it can aid in your quality of life. The connection between health and happiness is strong. Therefore, I’d like to continue on that topic today and teach you to set attainable fitness goals that will motivate and sustain you. Follow these health and fitness goals tips to increase your chances of success.

Personalize Your Goals

Health and fitness goals should be personalized to your specific needs, interests, preferences, and lifestyle. If you try to add foods or exercises that don’t appeal to you, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Instead, choose activities and meal choices that are more up your alley. Sure, it’s still going to take hard work and dedication. But at least you’ll know you’ve got variables you can work with.

Make Them Measurable

A big problem many have with goal setting, especially when it comes to health and fitness, is that their goals are simply too vague. It’s not enough to say that you want to lose weight and get healthy. Instead, your goal should be specific and measurable. You should also determine a timeframe for accomplishing your goals. This way, you’re able to measure your progress and make adjustments as necessary. For example, you say that you want to lose 15 pounds within five months by going to the gym three times a week and eating a diet of 1500 calories per day.

Be Realistic

At first, you should choose goals that are realistically within reach for you. That’s not to say you shouldn’t challenge yourself. Just be sure your goals are attainable. Otherwise, you’re likely to get discouraged and quit before reaching them. You can always adjust and add more difficult objectives after meeting your initial goals. In addition, consider setting milestones of smaller goals so that you have something to celebrate along the journey.

Know Your Why

Your “why” is the reason you choose to undertake a goal in the first place. Why do you want to get healthy? What are your main reasons or motivators? Perhaps it’s so you can do more with your children. Maybe you want to be in better health so that you can enjoy travel and physical activities. Regardless, knowing your why will prove to be a strong motivator for success and will sustain you when times get tough.

These tips should help you to develop health and fitness goals that work for you. When you have a plan in mind, you’re more likely to stick with it and to see things through to the end.
