Spiritual Approach to Healing from Grief

During challenging times like these, we are all experiencing forms of loss and grief throughout our daily lives. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, a job, or even our own health, grief appears in various forms and can take a toll on our mental stability and quality of life.

There are many ways to support ourselves throughout the grief process physically, psychologically and emotionally, and it is important to recognize these techniques and incorporate them into our days in order to make the healing process productive.

One of the best ways to approach the healing process that comes after a loss is through connecting with one’s spirituality, and not just the religious variety, which will be discussed below.

Meditation

Learning to connect with the mind and body is one of the best ways to heal from grief in a spiritual way. By analyzing our emotions and recognizing them, we are able to accept them instead of brushing them off which is very important when trying to let go.

It may be helpful to start out with guided meditations around grief and loss in order to feel more comfortable when starting out. The deep connection you will experience with the mind will prevent you from the feelings of detachment and instability and will allow you to be more in touch with reality.

One of the most important strategies that meditation can teach is how to be more present in the moment. When we are grieving, it is very common to feel lost in the past, repeating memories and past experiences that occurred before a loss. When you learn to feel present in the moment, the grieving process will seem easier and you will not feel as overwhelmed when trying to focus on tasks in front of you.

Nature

We all know the beautiful feeling of standing outside without any distraction and appreciating the world around us. Spending time in nature rather than focused on technology can allow you to get fresh air and let go of the repeating thoughts within. You will feel a greater sense of gratitude for the world around you which is crucial when trying to overcome a loss.

Whether it be going for hikes or walks each day or even sitting outside of your home, you will be more in touch with reality and with your emotions. It can be easy to look at our phones or do other tasks to stay busy and distract ourselves, but in order to heal we have to come to terms with our emotions and accept them.

Reading

Reading literature about spirituality, faith, and religion is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of spirit and what it means for you, especially during a grieving process. Inviting spirituality into your life during times of loss is a great way to learn to accept situations and experiences and let go of the feeling of living in the past.

Reading about spirituality is a great way to connect from within to the universe and something higher than yourself, which is a way to stay in touch with reality and understand difficult emotions.

A spiritual approach to the grieving process is a great way to understand your healing and acknowledge the emotions you are experiencing. It can allow you to breathe through your challenging feelings and accept situations and eventually let them go. By staying present and in touch with reality, you will find that you are more in control of the grieving process and will not feel as isolated throughout it.
